EP calls for respect of right to self-determination of Sahrawi people | Sahara Press Service
'Brussels, April 19, 2012 (SPS) -European Parliament (EP) called for the need to respect the right of Saharawi people to self-determination in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
in its report on "Human rights worldwide and the EU policy in this area", adopted on Wednesday 18, April, the European Parliament recalled its resolution of 25 November 2010 on the situation in Western Sahara.
it condemned “the ongoing repression of Sahrawi people in the occupied territories and calls for their fundamental rights, including freedom of association, freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate, to be respected”.

EP called for “the release of the 80 Sahrawi political prisoners and, as a matter of priority, of the 23 who have been held without trial in Salé prison following the dismantling of the Gdeim Izik camp”.
It reiterated its call for “the establishment of an international mechanism to monitor human rights in the Western Sahara and for a fair and lasting settlement of the conflict on the basis of the right to self-determination of the Sahrawi people, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions”.
Minister Delegate for Europe, Mohamed Sidati has welcomed the position of the European Parliament g, calling it “loud and clear message for Morocco to abide by its commitments and finally accept the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination without further delay”. (SPS)
