Western Sahara: HRW urged Security Council to extend MINURSO mandate for Human Rights - APS : Algérie Presse Service: "WASHINGTON- The U.S. organization of defense of human rights Human Rights Watch (HRW) called on the UN Security Council to expand the mandate of MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the organization of a referendum in Western Sahara) in monitoring human rights of the Saharawi people. In a letter to 15 members of the Security Council, Human Rights Watch made the call in preparation for the examination next Tuesday by the UN decision-making body of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Western Sahara. In this regard, this organization, whose headquarters are based in New York, recalled that MINURSO "is one of the few missions of UN peacekeeping operations lacking the oversight function of human rights."
