UN special Rapporteur of Human Rights Defenders renews his grave concerns regarding saharawi detainee Walid El Batal | Porunsaharalibre | @x1saharalibre

PUSL.- In the Addendum Observations on communications transmitted to Governments and replies received concerning the Report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights, a special mention is made to the case of Saharawi political prisoner Mr. Walid El Batal and the situation of Human Rights Defenders which are subjected to intimidation aimed at discouraging their work in the field of human rights and limiting exercise of their rights to freedom of association and freedom of expression.

In paragraph 702 the Addendum is stated:

702. Concerning the case of the Saharawi journalist Mr. Walid El Batal, Special Rapporteur renews his grave concerns regarding his arrest and detention, ranging from allegations of violence allegedly committed by the police at the time of his arrest and interrogation, to allegations of confession under duress and failure to respect the guarantees of a fair trial. The Special Rapporteur also remains concerned that according to information received, human rights defenders in Western Sahara are regularly subjected to intimidation aimed at discouraging their work in the field of human rights and limiting the exercise of their rights to freedom of association and freedom of expression.
