CODESA sends a letter to Ms. Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights | Porunsaharalibre | @x1saharalibre
PUSL.- The Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) has sent a letter to Ms. Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to alert about the serious human rights violations perpetrated by the Moroccan State against civilians Sahrawis in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
CODESA reminds Ms. Bachelet that Western Sahara is a territory under the mandate of the United Nations and in which the United Nations Mission for the Referendum (MINURSO) has been deployed, since 1991, that has no mechanism to regularly monitors and reports on the human rights situation in this territory.
CODESA denounces that the statements and testimonies of different human rights defenders to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, during his visits to the territory of Western Sahara, have only served to make the Moroccan occupier punish these defenders with prison in overcrowded Moroccan prisons.
Despite different reports from international organizations, the Moroccan state continues to arrest Sahrawi human rights defenders, bloggers, students and trade unionists for their political opinion or for their participation in peaceful protests where they demand the rights of the Sahrawi people, denounces CODESA in its letter , as well as the total lack of impartiality of the Moroccan courts that are reflected in severe and unjust sentences.
CODESA requests Ms. Bachelet to activate the appropriate measures to release the Saharawi political prisoners who have seen their situation aggravated, which is already critical due to the Covid 19 pandemic. All have health problems due to the torture they suffered and lack access to medicine or medical attention, which puts them at greater risk in relation to the Covid 19
